GOLDEN AGE OF BEER IN PHILADELPHIA  TOURS

presents

Golden Age of Philadephia Pale Ale!

What is the Golden Age of Philadelphia Pale Ale?

Yards Brewing, in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Golden Age of Beer in Philadelphia Tour, has brewed up a special throwback version of their delicious Philadelphia Pale Ale. Yards made their name on the blazing hop aroma of their ESA, achieved by painstakingly stuffing a "hop pocket" of full flower East Kent Goldings into each keg of ESA. These were the old Hoff-Stevens, or "two-prong," kegs, with wooden bungs in the side. Fairly simple: pop off the bung to clean the keg, drop in the hop pocket, fill with beer, pound in the bung, then enjoy incredibly aromatic beer.

Not so easy any more, now that Yards has entered the modern age of Sankey, or "ball-tap" kegs: no removable wooden bung! But just for you, Yards' brewers have laboriously removed the taps from six Sankey kegs, and dropped in a hop pocket of Simcoe hops, the uniquely aromatic hop that gives their Philadelphia Pale Ale its amazing zing and kick.

"Philly Pale is already hopped with Simcoe," said Yards founder Tom Kehoe, "but we're going old school on this batch, right in the Sankey keg. You'll get that nice resiny hop flavor and aroma that you don’t always get in beers that are normally done up, it's more like you get in casks. It’s definitely going to jump out at you. "

It's a lot of work, so don't expect to see this ever again. We asked Tom, what if this special version really catches on, and people like it. "Catching on is not an issue," he said. "It's a lot of work, so that’s not going to happen!"

That means that this is your only chance to get this special beer:
this tour, this year...our beer.

Our thanks to Yards Brewing and Tom Kehoe!
